Welcome to Year 5
Kestrel and Kingfisher classes make up the Year 5 team and we aim to create an environment where all children feel safe and valued. The class teachers are Mrs Astley, Mrs White and Mrs Prince. We are also fortunate to have Mrs Fuoco and Mrs Coles working alongside us.
Showing respect is the key to creating a positive atmosphere and all members of Year 5 are expected to demonstrate this at all times in the same way that they can expect to be shown it by those working alongside them.
We encourage children to take responsibility for their learning, in preparation for the rest of their school journey. They also take on leadership roles around the school, being given opportunities to volunteer as a librarian, reading buddy or play leader.
Being ‘stuck’ is positively encouraged as, in the words of one of our pupils, ‘being stuck means you’re learning and if you show resilience and stick at it, you’ll feel brilliant when you finally crack it!’ As teachers, we also have the satisfaction of hearing their brains whirring.
Our fourth school value of reflection allows learners to take what has gone before and use it as a springboard to ensure that their future experiences build successfully on it.
We recognise that successful learners are created when school and home work in partnership together which is why we encourage you to come and talk to us if you have any questions or concerns.
