We’re excited to begin a new school year filled with fun, learning, and discovery!
Year 1 is made up of two classes:
- Lark Class, taught by Mrs Flavell
- Rook Class, taught by Mrs Mills and Mrs Hales-Richardson, with Mrs Clapham teaching every Wednesday.
We are also very fortunate to have the wonderful support of Miss Kynoch and Mrs Sumner across Year 1.
Our aim is to deliver the Year 1 curriculum through a variety of fun, engaging, and practical activities. These include hands-on learning, collaborative tasks, written work, and exciting experiences such as trips in the local community and visits from special guests.
We place a strong emphasis on developing essential learning skills. These include:
- Read, Write Inc. - Phonics and reading
- Kinetic Letters handwriting programme
- Early maths mastery skills
Our learning journey this year is: What is it like here? How am I making history? What is the weather like in the UK? How have toys changed? What is it like to live in Shanghai? How have explorers changed the world? In addition to academic learning, we foster social skills by encouraging teamwork and respectful play, helping children build confidence and strong relationships.
We believe that a strong partnership between school and home is key to a successful year. If you have any questions or would like to get in touch, please don’t hesitate to email us at: Year1@meadowsideprimary.org
We look forward to a fantastic year together.
