Welcome to Year 5
Our Year 5 classes are Kingfisher and Kestrel. Mrs Feaver teaches in Kingfisher Class. Mrs Garrett teaches in Kestrel Class from Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Letts teaches on a Thursday and Friday. Both classes receive fantastic support from Mrs Waters. Some other teachers in year 5 are Mrs Arnold and Mrs Fuoco. All the adults work hard together to ensure all children are kept safe, get as much out of their learning as possible and reach their full potential.
Throughout the year, the children will be practising a variety of maths skills as well as continuing to develop and improve their writing. We will also be enjoying reading lessons in which we will explore a wide variety of texts, including non-fiction and fiction. We start the year by reading our first class novel – The Bad Beginning from A Series of Unfortunate Events. We follow this with The Boy at the Back of the Class and Oranges in No Man's Land. Year 5 will also develop their knowledge of history and geography through a variety of topics: The Alps, Ancient Greeks, Oceans, Vikings, deserts and the Tudors. These topics are supported by a broad curriculum that helps the children raise their aspirations, build self-confidence and really enjoy their learning as well as preparing them for Year 6 and beyond.
We are keen to really get to know the children and watch them achieve new heights in their learning!
